I need a new TVI’ve been thinking of things I should resolve this New Years and the idea struck me that a person such as I, who hates television and usually only gets into a show only after it has been cancelled (Freaks and Geeks, Dead Like Me, Firefly), should not have cable. It is simply bad monetary stewardship.

Cable is just one of those niggly little $1 to $30 monthly expenses that quickly add up to a bunch of money for something you really shouldn’t support. Don’t you think the cable companies and others formulate the monthly price of these services so that they neatly fall into the category of “just too little money to worry about cancelling”? I figure if I save a bunch on those little monthly subscriptions and such, I could afford to actually contribute a few more bucks to things I really do enjoy (the Wizards of Technology, This Week in Tech, Joy of Tech, etc.).

How can I justify paying $30/month for cable that I hate, that pollutes my brain and wastes the precious little time I have, when I could send less than that to a few sources that contribute to my quality of life, make me smarter, inspire and motivate me, and could very well disappear or suffer without my support?
