Not much to say about this other than “It happened.”
I went out yesterday to buy an intermediate crate: one that is bigger than the small one I’ve been using to transport Abby in the car and smaller than the huge one she sleeps in in my bedroom and yet the right size for fitting in the back seat of my car. It was quite an ordeal. I chose a crate and brought it to the counter to be rung up by the cashier only to find that they didn’t have a UPC to scan in for it. While the cashier went looking for it, I noticed the crate was missing a latch. While another store employee went looking for another latch, I noticed that the metal door was bent and screwed up in places. I went off looking for the store employees to tell them not to bother, but they had already found an entirely new crate for me.
Great.
I bought it and took it out the to car. It was then that I realized that, though it would fit in there, it was so big that I wouldn’t be able to see out the back window. Crap. After all the trouble I put those people through, I couldn’t go in and ask them to swap it for the next size smaller. Beside that, Abby is only getting bigger–it’s go big or don’t bother. So I kept it.
So today, looking at the dark and damp weather, I didn’t feel right about driving out to deepest, darkest Granville Island from Abbotsford without the ability to see what might be behind me. Especially with my furry friend in the back seat. So I made Abby take the one and a quarter hour ride in her smaller (fast becoming too small) crate.
We got there 10 minutes early for our 3:30pm appointment, so I hung out in the back seat with Abbers and let her have a stretch.
Once we got inside, I met the photographers and let Abby off leash and removed her collar. She wandered around sniffing things. The photographers and I spoke for a while while we waited for Abby to settle in and get comfortable with her surroundings. Once that was achieved, they went right into snapping pics. Abby did very well considering her age (3 months today) and if it weren’t for her insatiable curiosity about cameras, she probably would have done exceptionally well for a dog of any age. The one photographer even remarked at her intelligence saying that he had learned a lot about dogs over the course of compiling pictures for this book. Some dogs just don’t venture out of their own little minds while others are with you wherever you are together. I had that with Gracie, too.
While I signed the model release papers, Abby peed on the floor. Nice end to the session.
So the shoot was over quickly and we took the ride home. The End.
