I have been a popcorn addict for as long as I can remember. I got hooked on JiffyPop at an early age and was introduced to microwave (though not the paper bag style we use today) soon afterward. I developed a preference for the foamy texture of melted creamery butter and an appreciation for the nutty flavor of caramelized chaff that accompanied well popped corn.

I moved on to air poppers, but always hated the mess of the old maids that were expelled from the device at great force by their bursting cousins. Still, it was popcorn and that was reason enough to welcome this device into my home.

Then I rediscovered the old standby in the form of this Cuisinart model; popping in oil. It makes sense; if we’re trying to bring the taste of the movie theater home (and I am) then why are we popping by every method except the one used at the local multiplex? Oil is the way to pop and no better than peanut oil for the full effect.

The Cuisinart CPM-800 Popcorn Maker is not yet available where I live in Canada, but all thing come to those who eBay. For those of you in the US, the image at left serves as a link to where you might land this device of excellent popping. Enjoy.
