PowerBook #2: Strike 3, you’re out!!!
Okay, this is just nuts.
I bought my first PowerBook back in December of 2003. By July of 2004, the machine had been brought in for repairs on 3 separate occasions for screen replacements due to dark shadows appearing on screen…and not the creepy 60s TV series kind. Apple obliged my request for a replacement and I was upgraded from a 1.25GHz PowerBook to a newer 1.5GHz model.
In November of last year, the new PowerBook started exhibiting the same bad behavior of its older cousin and its screen was replaced.
Then in April of this year, the PowerBook’s hard drive failed. It was promptly replaced… and the new one promptly failed also… and was replaced by a third one… that one burned down, fell over and then sank into the swamp–sorry, Python moment, couldn’t resist it…
Finally, the last straw–imagine my surprise when I woke up but my PowerBook didn’t!! Yeah, another drive failure. And, yes, drive failures happen, but, c’mon, after a while you have to wonder if it is the drives that are dying or the PowerBook that is killing them. I called Apple.
PowerBook #2 is boxed up and I’m waiting for UPS to come pick it up and at that point a new 2.0GHz Intel Core Duo MacBook Pro will be sent my way.
Is this the “happy ending” to the story? Time will tell.
